Spuds alert! Potatoes are in the ground 🥔👌⁠

On Tuesday and Wednesday we transplanted quartered seed potatoes (called seed because they have extra eyes, aka growing points) into the ground, cut side down. We space each potato about 12 inches apart. In this picture, you can see the potato row, freshly transplanted. We then go back over the rows and mound a bit of soil up and over the potato.⁠

Since potatoes grow underground, it is essential that they remain covered. Should the tubers become exposed to sunlight, they will turn green and become inedible. ⁠

As the plant grows, green tops pop up, growing higher and higher to safely expose the plant to the sunlight it needs. We'll scoop up soil over the plant again, creating a larger and deeper mound.⁠

Sunshine + weekly watering will allow these potato plants to grow big and strong 😊👍

On Saturdays from May-October, we're hosting Pony Rides for children ages 2+, max. 80 lbs.⁠
*9am-4:45pm in time slot fashion*⁠
⁠
Pony rides take place at our open air pony pen, located inside our Barnyard Petting Zoo.⁠
⁠
Tickets are required, $5 per child.⁠
All persons purchasing a Pony Ride ticket must also have a Barnyard ticket that reflects the same day and time.⁠
⁠

Happy Birthday to fourth generation farmer, Jimmy! 🎉🌽

Jimmy manages the produce fields here in Wyckoff and at our wholesale farm in Hillsborough. Farm dawn to dusk - and beyond- Jimmy works hard to supply his family and the community with fresh nutritious food using natural and sustainable agriculture methods.

His love of plant science started at a tender age as he spent his boyhood learning alongside his father, grandfather, and Craig in the fields. Before he was of working age, he started his own garden on the farm harvesting veggies.

Jimmy is the husband of Anna and the father of three: Colton, Charlie, and Trace. He is an intrical member to agricultural programs such as the Bergen County Board of Ag and the NJ Board of Ag, and in 2019 he received the Outstanding Young Farmer Award for the state of New Jersey and made it to the top 10 farmers of the United States! 🇺🇲 🚜

Happy Birthday and thanks for all that you do Jimmy! 🍻🎉
